Racers Out Slug Charge

McKinney, TX - (August 1, 2016) –  The Akron Racers collected 11 hits, six for extra bases, including four home runs on the way to beating the Dallas Charge Monday night 7-3.  Sami Fagan mashed two of the long balls and drove in three.

Sarah Pauly went the distance for the Racers allowing three runs on seven hits.  She fanned four and walked two.

Chelsea Forkin, Taylor Gadbois and Lauren Haeger each had two hits for the Charge.  Forkin doubled in the second inning and homered in the third driving in two runs.

Lauren Haeger picked up the loss for the Charge.  She allowed four runs on seven hits in three and two-thirds innings.

The Racers got things going early with a two-run bomb from Sam Fischer in the top of the first.  The Charge cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second inning when Gadbois singled home Forkin who had doubled.  Fagan stretched the lead back to two runs with a solo shot into the left field bleachers.

The Charge tied the game in the home half of the third on Forkin’s second home run in as many nights.

The Racers quickly regained the lead, this time for good.  McKinney native Ashley Thomas led off the inning with a triple to right and scored on a wild pitch.  Haeger, then gave way to Cheridan Hawkins in the circle.

The score would remain 4-3 until to the top of the seventh when the Racers tacked on three more runs, two coming on Fagan’s second home run of the game.  Thomas finished off the scoring with a solo rocket over the fence.

The Charge fell to 14-26 on the season.  The Racers evened up their record at 21-21.  The Charge will take on the Akron Racers again on Tuesday night.
