Aurora, CO - (June 30, 2016) – Monica Abbott beat the Charge for the fourth time this season tossing a complete game three-hitter and the Dawgs hit three home runs in the third inning on route to a 9-0 victory and series win over the Charge Thursday night at the Aurora Sports Complex.
Abbott dominated the Charge again, striking out 15 hitters in her seven innings of work. The Charge managed just one base runner beyond first base in the game.
Cheridan Hawkins got the start for the Charge. After a scoreless first inning, the Dawgs bats came alive. Meagan May Whitley began the hit parade with a monster drive over the centerfield fence. Two more hits followed before Emily Crane launched a long ball over the right centerfield fence extending the lead to 4-0. Britt Vonk reached on a bunt single before Emily Koerner made the score 6-0 with a two-run shot to right. The third homer of the inning signaled the end for Hawkins night.
Jill Compton entered in relief of Hawkins temporarily stopping the bleeding. After a scoreless third, the Dawgs added a single run in the fourth and another in the fifth pushing the lead to 8-0.
After two Dawg singles in the sixth, Compton made way for Andi Williamson in the circle. A wild pitch and Breja’e Washington single up the middle brought home the Dawg ninth and final run of the night.
Lauren Haeger broke up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh with a 0-2 laser into the crowd in centerfield. It was her second hit of the night.
The Charge fell to 7-13. The Dawgs raised their record to 11-9. The Charge will return home for a two game series against the PA Rebellion on July 4th and 5th.
