Haeger Shuts Out Scrap Yard Dawgs

Westminster, CO - (June 29, 2016) – Lauren Haeger fired a complete game two-hit shutout Wednesday night in game two of a three games series, leading the Charge to victory over the Dawgs 5-0.  The win was the first ever for the Charge over the expansion Scrap Yard squad.  Haeger improved to 4-3 in the circle.  She struck out 11 and walked five.   The game was delayed in the top of the sixth inning for just over an hour by lightning and rain.

Haeger kept the Dawgs under control most of the game.  Although she did pitch out of trouble of her own making in the second.  Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out.  Haeger coaxed a line out to short and routine ground ball to get out of danger.

The Charge scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.  All four were charged to Dawg starter Ellen Renfroe Reed.  Sara Driessenga took over in the second and pitched the rest of the way for the Dawgs.

Four hits in the Charge half of first led to an early lead.  RBI doubles from Kylee Lahners and Haeger drove in the first three.  A single from Dallas catcher Kaylyn Castillo plated Haeger and run number four.

In the bottom of the sixth, Danielle Henderson drilled a rocket over the centerfield fence to stretch the lead to five and end the scoring.  The solo shot was her second of the season.

The Charge collected seven hits from six hitters.  Castillo reached via the hit twice.

The Charge improved to 7-12.  The Dawgs fell to 10-9.  The two teams will finish their three game Colorado series on Thursday at Aurora Sports Complex in Aurora, CO.
