Erie, CO - (June 28, 2016) – Monica Abbott tossed a one-hit complete game shutout Tuesday night in Colorado leading the Scrap Yard Dawgs to a 7-0 victory over the Dallas Charge. Lauren Haeger broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The gamed marked the fifth straight win for the Dawgs over the Charge and the third time in five games the Charge have faced Abbott.
Extremely efficient, Abbott needed just 77 pitches to dispatch the Charge. She struck out 11.
Morgan Melloh got the start for the Charge going four innings, allowing six runs, three earned. She fanned seven and walked just one. Andi Williamson relieved Melloh pitching the final three frames. She allowed one run and struck out three.
In a game marred by a nearly hour weather delay and illegal pitch calls, the Dawgs stroked nine hits, five for extra bases including two home runs. Emily Koener and Nerissa Myers each hit the lasers that left the park.
The Dawgs took the lead in the top of the third, scoring three. They added two in the fourth and one in the fifth, pushing the lead to six. The Koener solo bomb in the top of the seventh made the score 7-0.
The Charge fell to 6-12. The Dawgs upped their record to 10-8. The two teams will face off again on Wednesday at Christopher Complex in Westminster, CO.
