Charge Drop Sunday Double Header With Dawgs

The Woodlands, TX - (June 19, 2016) – The Charge dropped both ends of a double header in The Woodlands Sunday afternoon to the Scrap Yard Dawg extending their league losing streak to seven.  Dallas was blanked 5-0 in game one before giving up a two run lead in the bottom of the seventh to lose 6-5 in game two.

Game 1

The Scrap Yard Dawgs took a third straight game from the Dallas Charge Sunday afternoon in game one of a double header, 5-0.  Rachel Fox and Ellen Renfroe Reed combined to get the shutout.  Fox recorded the win going five strong.  Lauren Haeger got the start and the loss in the circle for the Charge.

The Dawgs got on the board in the first with an RBI single from Nerissa Myers that plated Britt Vonk.

A walk and two bunt singles loaded the bases for the Dawgs in the bottom of the fifth.  An Emily Koerner single brought home two and signaled the end of the day for Haeger.  Jill Compton came on in relief.  Myers followed with a single that pushed one more across stretching the lead to 4-0.

Kiki Stokes homered in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 5-0 and close out the scoring.

The Charge were held to just five hits.  Rookie Caitlin Attfield had two of the them.  Haeger fell to 2-2 in the circle.

Game 2

The Charged jumped out early scoring five in the first two innings off Dawg Rookie Sara Driessenga.  In the first Renada Davis tripled home Gadbois who had walked.  Haeger scored her on a fielder’s choice making it 2-0 Charge after one.

In their second at bat the Charge extended the lead to five.  Attfield drove in one and Haeger delivered a two-out single to right that knocked in two.  Those runs would be the extent of the Charge scoring and ultimately would not hold up.

The Dawgs answered back with three in the bottom of the fourth against Charge starter Morgan Melloh on one hit, two walks and a sacrifice fly.  The Charge held a 5-3 lead into the Dawgs final at bat.

The Scrap Yard offense started the seventh by drawing a walk.  A fielder’s choice and single put runners at first and second with one out and saw Haeger head for the circle in relief of Melloh. Taylore Fuller, an old Florida teammate of Haeger took her deep for a game winning three run walk-off homer.

The two losses dropped the Charge to 4-9 on the season while the Dawgs moved to 7-7.

The Charge return home to face Akron for two games Monday and Tuesday night.
