McKinney, TX – May 19, 2016 – The Dallas Charge announce the signing of their first pick in the 2016 NPF Draft, Caitlin Attfield. The UAB short stop has earned many accolades in her college career including the 2015 Conference USA Player of the Year, the first in UAB history. Attfield is also the first UAB Blazer drafted into the NPF.
Attfield said, “I'm very excited for this opportunity to play professional softball and to be a part of the Dallas Charge. I can't wait to be down there and meet the team!”
The Niagara Falls, New York native earned 2016 Conference USA All-Tournament Team honors and was again named 1st Team All-Conference, her fourth consecutive selection. In 2016 Attfield led her team in hitting, on-base percentage, hits, triples and runs scored. As she moves to the next phase in her career, the middle infielder leaves UAB as the owner of seven career records.
“It is exciting to add such a great athlete to our squad,” Charge General Manager Kevin Shelton said. “Her versatility, speed and energy will be a big plus for us. Caitlin plays every play hard. She hustles 100% of the time. It’s a great example for our young fans and players everywhere. Attfield will give us needed depth in the middle infield. Personally, I look forward to seeing her play. She’ll quickly become a fan favorite.”
