Dallas, TX—March 5, 2015—The Dallas Charge are excited to announce the addition of Chez Sievers to our coaching staff. After completing a stellar career at the University of Texas, Sievers has been a successful coach at both the collegiate and international level. Sievers and head coach Jennifer McFalls have previously worked together on staff at the University of Texas and in numerous clinics.
“I have had the opportunity to work with Chez and I have tremendous respect for her knowledge of the game. I think we share similar coaching styles and philosophies and she will be able to communicate effectively with our players. I am excited to have a coach on our staff with her background and most of all her passion for the game,” said McFalls.
Sievers also said she is excited to work with McFalls in building the Charge organization. “I worked with Coach McFalls in 2011 at UT. She is an incredibly passionate coach who is a player’s coach. McFalls has a wealth of knowledge working with a variety of athletes and has the ability to inspire them to play with the same passion she brings every day.”
Recently, Sievers has returned to the Austin area and started her own business called Smart Softball, an online softball resource that connects players, coaches, and families all over the world with softball strategies and philosophies. Her website, www.smart-softball.com, features blogs and podcasts with some of the game’s top players, coaches, and manufacturers. Additionally, Sievers remains active in the Austin community working with individual players and teams.
Sievers’s coaching roots have taken her around the world and allowed her to work with athletes of various ages and backgrounds. After graduating from Texas in 2006, she coached youth softball from 2007-2009, was an assistant at Cal State Fullerton in 2010, a volunteer assistant at the University of Texas in 2011, and an assistant at UC Riverside from 2012-2014. Additionally, Sievers coached a professional team in Austria called the Dornbirn Sharx and the Austrian Junior and Senior National Team.
“Somehow I always find myself being part of growing a program or a business that I truly believe in. I joined the Charge because I believe in the people who are a part of growing this organization. Their mission is to get involved in the community, to be impactful, and to create a positive experience for all these involved.”
This marks the first season Sievers will spend in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF).
“The professional athletes, coaches and owners in the NPF are so passionate about the game and do so much to encourage its growth. Instead of sitting in the stands, my mission is to contribute to the NPF by sharing my experience, getting involved in the community, and developing a competitive team the fans would be proud of,” said Sievers.
As a player, Sievers was one of the all-time best to wear burnt orange. She helped the Longhorns to three Women’s College World Series (WCWS) appearances and two Big 12 Championships. The former middle infielder was named the 2003 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, was named to the All-Big 12 Team three times, and was a member of the 2005 All Region Team. Beyond the awards, Sievers was known as one of the most competitive and dynamic players to watch. At 5 feet, Sievers packed a punch both offensively and defensively.
Sievers and McFalls will begin leading the Charge on June 3rd as the Charge’s inaugural season kicks off at home against the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
