The Dallas Charge opened their inaugural season on Wednesday against the Pennsylvania Rebellion. The brand new National Professional Fastpitch team played at home with a home game in McKinney, Texas at Dallas Charge Stadium in the Ballfields at Craig Ranch in front of over 700 fans. Even though the girls suffered a hard fought first loss, they opened up with a bang letting fans know that they are, in fact, here to play.
Bats were quiet for the Charge until the bottom of the fourth when Brianna Cherry made the first hit in Dallas Charge history with a 2 RBI single to tie the game at 2-2 bringing in a pitching change for the Rebellion.
After the Rebellion strike again in the fifth, Kaitlyn Richardson’s first career hit and a Victoria Valos pinch hit set Taylor Thom up for an RBI double after a controversial foul ball to once again tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
A sacrifice fly bringing in another and final run for the Rebellion would be the last mark from either team in the game. Suffering the 4-3 loss in the circle for the Charge was rookie Sarah Purvis who came in to relieve Australian National Team member Vanessa Stokes in the top of the fifth inning.
The first player of the game for the Dallas Charge was given to Brianna Cherry who recorded the first hit and RBI for the Dallas Charge in the bottom of the fourth inning. Speaking on her accomplishment, Cherry said “It felt really, really good. It was definitely unexpected. I just went out there playing my game, doing what I could go try to put our team in the best position to be successful and I had a lot of fun. I can’t wait for the games ahead.”
On the first Dallas Charge game and dancing in front of a home crowd between innings, Angie Quiocho (“Q”) said “This was pretty magical. This team has already shown what it can do by keeping it a close game at 4-3 with as competitive as a team as the Rebellion…I got the response I wanted [in dancing between innings]. You can have fun playing softball. It’s kind of a mental break and I just thought it would be good to kind of show people that softball is still really a lot of fun for us as well.”
