Henderson’s First Charge Corrals Pride

Columbia, Missouri – Joelene Henderson made her debut in the NPF on Monday night for the Dallas Charge.  Her outstanding performance led the Dallas squad to a 4-1 victory.  After a rocky first inning, facing the USSSA Pride’s formidable lineup, Henderson settled down allowing just 3 hits over the final six innings.  Her first performance in a Charge uniform was a reunion with sister Danielle Henderson and the second victory over the Pride on the current road trip.

Wearing blue jerseys and blue pants for the first time in club history, the Charge took on the Pride at University Field on the campus on the University of Missouri.  After going down in order in the first, the Pride came out in full attack.  Three consecutive singles by Natasha Watley, Kelly Kretschman and Megan Wiggins gave the Pride a quick 1-0 lead.

Pride started, Chelsea Thomas, pitching at her college home field,  had the Charge under control through two innings.

In the top of the third, Charge leftfielder Eri Yamada stroked a single to right to drive in Renada Davis. Four batters later, third basemen Danielle Henderson put Dallas on top with an RBI double to rightcenter.

Following a leadoff triple by Charge’s Yamada, second basemen Taylor Thom lifted a sacrifice fly to left plating Yamada with the Charge’s third run.  Yamada was 2 for 4 on the evening.

In the sixth, Dallas pinch hitter Nadia Taylor welcomed Pride reliever Andrea Williamson with a rocket over the centerfield fence, making it 4-1.

Henderson closed out the game with little drama.  Her complete game, 6-hit, victory was buoyed by three double plays turned by the defense.  The Charge improved to 4-6.

The Charge take on the Pride again Tuesday night.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm on ESPN3.
