Dallas Charge Sign Georgia Southern Ace Sarah Purvis

Dallas, TX – March 12, 2015-The Dallas Charge are pleased to announce the recent signing of former Georgia Southern ace, Sarah Purvis. The three-time SoCon Pitcher of the Year will add much needed pitching depth to the Charge roster. Purvis joins recent signees Jolene Henderson and Morgan Melloh on the pitching staff.

“We’re excited to add Sarah to our roster. She had an exceptional college career at Georgia Southern and left there as one of the best players in their conference history. We believe she’ll add immediate depth and be a great compliment to Jolene and Morgan,” said Charge GM Kevin Shelton.

Purvis posted a record-breaking season as a senior at GSU in 2014, setting new school records for strikeouts, shutouts, victories, and consecutive scoreless innings – which she still currently holds. She fanned a record breaking 288 batters, which broke the record she previously set in 2012. Purvis also recorded 10 shutouts and posted a record-breaking string of 37 scoreless innings between February 16th and March 9th.

Those records helped her earn a third-straight SoCon Pitcher of the Year award in 2014 making her the first player in conference history to win that award three times. She was also named to the NFCA All-Region Team and First Team All-SoCon last season.

“When I got the call from the Charge, I knew it was a done deal that I wanted to sign with them. It’s a great opportunity to keep playing the game I love. I’m really looking forward to playing at the highest level of softball. I want to see how well I can compete against some of the best players in the country,” said Purvis.

Over her four years at Georgia Southern, Purvis recorded 61 wins and 757 strikeouts (over 200 more than the previous record holder.) Her 1.89 career ERA ranks second all-time at Georgia Southern. She finished her career with six no-hitters and threw her sixth and final no-hitter in the SoCon conference tournament against Elon, which was the first no-hitter in SoCon tournament history. Her nine career SoCon Pitcher of the Week awards rank first all-time in conference history.

The Warner Robbins, Georgia native said she is excited to both play and learn from Charge coaches and players.

“I’m really looking forward to learning more as a player and a coach. I’m excited to meet the coaches and see their different coaching styles. It’s a great opportunity to learn more as a player but also be able to take away new things that will help me as a coach,” said Purvis.
