Bench Warmer:

During her first years as a young softball player, Jolene was not very good, Her first coaches had to move her from the outfield, where she sat picking flowers and chasing butterflies, to the infield because she wouldn’t pay attention unless she had the ball.

Not a Natural Pitcher?

When Jolene first started pitching, she hated it because she wasn’t very good, hurling the ball over the backstop on multiple occasions. She did that so much that her ball league made a limit to the number of times a pitcher could do that before being pulled. That did not matter to Jolene, who purposefully threw the ball over the backstop to be pulled.

Family Ties:

Her father, Joe, coached her and her younger sister Danielle for years. Danielle was Jolene’s teammate on multiple teams before joining her at Berkeley. Jolene often jokes that she demanded Danielle attend Cal so that the younger Henderson wouldn’t hit home runs off Jolene. The eldest Henderson sibling - David - also attended Cal.

Why I have my number:

I wear No. 54 because it was my dad’s football number. I’ve always been a lot like my dad and I look up to him because he and my mom have taught me so much and made me into the person I am today. My parents do so much for me and always have. I wear 54 to be like my dad - strong, caring, determined and controlled - and I braid my hair for my mom.
